UK Crypto Ownership Declines to 8% as Market Consolidates Among Holders
Cryptocurrency ownership in the UK fell to 8% of adults in 2025, down from 12% the previous year, according to the Financial Conduct Authority's latest report. This marks the first notable contraction since the pandemic-driven surge in adoption.
Despite the drop in participation, the market shows signs of maturation. Holdings have become more concentrated among committed investors, with portfolios growing larger and holding periods extending. Current ownership levels remain double the 4% recorded in 2021.
The demographic breakdown reveals familiar patterns: 15% of adults aged 18-34 hold digital assets, while men (11%) outpace women in adoption. Public awareness has plateaued at 91%, suggesting market education efforts may have reached saturation.
